Nestled along the rolling Piedmont of North Carolina, Rowan
County provides a perfect blend of urban and rural landscapes.
For residents and visitors, the unique location
offers
an easy drive to the Blue Ridge Mountains or the beaches along
the Atlantic. It is an area rich with cultural heritage and
alive with a diverse population. A temperate climate and
growing industry continue to spur population growth. Rowan
County offers an opportunity to celebrate a past steeped in
history, while enjoying a rich lifestyle and planning for a
healthy future.
Rowan County is proud to offer residents a premiere school system
and several institutions of higher learning. The
Rowan-Salisbury School System is made up of 17 elementary
schools, seven middle schools, an alternative school and five high
schools. These 30 schools, many of which are award winning, comprise
the system that serves over 20,000 students. With continued growth
in the county, future plans include expansion and construction of
new facilities. The State Department of Public Instruction and the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredit all schools in
the Rowan-Salisbury system. Other choices for primary education
include a number of private schools, many church-affiliated, and one
charter school.
